Aviram
Ronny Aviram - Artist
I was born in 1983 in Haifa, Israel.
In my artistic practice I engage with the relationship between collective and individual memory.
I work across various media, such as photography, video, installation, and sound.
At the core of my artistic practice lies an interest in the tension between the concrete, profane, everyday-life-materials, and the deep latent, structures and narratives that we operate in.
From this interest grows my attraction to explore diverse themes, among which are cities as a site of memory and mythmaking. My artistic practice revolves around the exploration of the multifaceted nature of identity and its intersection with social, cultural, and environmental dynamics. Particularly, I am fascinated by the constant interplay between individuality and collective consciousness. Through my work, I seek to delve into the depths of this intricate relationship, aiming to shed light on its nuances and stress the contradictions inherent to it.
I strive to create artworks that spark introspection and provoke thought. And though my work is lyrical and has roots in an intellectual investigation, it aims to be approachable and could be playful.
Intellectual investigation and research are an integral part of my creative process. I love learning. for me it is essential to learn about the themes I am working on, to converse with different people, and to be open to input from the world around me.
I embrace a multidisciplinary approach to art, utilizing various techniques and mediums to bring my concepts to life. Every project I take demands its own means of expression. From sculptures and installations, photography to video, sound to writing, I engage with diverse mediums to create a thought-provoking work.
As an artist, I am driven by a desire to contribute to the discourse surrounding pressing social and environmental issues. The city is for me both a symbol and a realty, a functional system and a cultural achievement. We leave our mark in it, and it in us. It is a place of coming together and of boundaries and separation (physical, social, cultural). By dealing with those issues in my artistic practice, I aim to inspire a dialogue, urging viewers to critically reflect on the place we inhabit and their role within it.
My position is a synthesis of my personal vision, conceptual exploration, and techniques that are chosen carefully for the specific work and site. It is embracing collaborative work. It is an ever-evolving journey, characterized by continuous learning, introspection and exchange of thoughts, wishes and prospectives.
Through my art, I aspire to challenge perceptions and foster a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world we share, an understanding that in it's turn could lead to care and compassion.
